Journal of a Tim Malloys Fan
just to throw you off.. the journal format has been switched to read from the bottom up.

February 7, 2004: Tonight was a great show! A little too many vodka/redbulls for yours truly. Adam and Johnny were in rare form, and even though it was not the usual crowd at the half time, we all had a lot of fun. Three women even flashed the band.. I'm not going to name any names though..

February 3, 2004: After a few too many shots of Jameson, the night was thoroughly enjoyed. The show kicked ass tonight! There was a huge crowd at the half time which added to the fun. Very rough recovery on Wednesday though..

January 31, 2004: Awesome time at Kieran's tonight. Gaelic Storm joined the band for a few songs. The place was packed.

June 13: Well it was Dave Wheeler's birthday today, and in the spirit of good fun and friends, yours truly the esteemed web master deemed it necessary to get more drunk than Dave and make a fool of myself to draw attention away from the far more sober road manager. Anyone who wants more details of the story, feel free to ask around. It was a great night of fun! Happy birthday Dave!
April 22: BOOBS!
March 20,21,22: We missed you Neil! While Neil took a much needed weekend off to spend time with his family, the rest of us got a special treat: Steve Mulligan (Old Triangle) joined the band for the shows. It was a lot of fun having Steve play with the guys.. He even got Adam to play bass for a little while (I have pictures). Anyone who didn't catch this show missed out.. It was fun to hear some of my favorites sung differently.. And Steve, Johnny, and Adam were definately having fun on stage. :)
March 17 (and beyond): ok.. A lot of people turned out for the St. Patty's Day celebration both at Kieran's and at First ave.. So I'd like to pose this question to the masses.. even though you can't respond.. (apparently we now need a chat room).. So anyway.. What was* the deal with everyone at First Ave.?? Was it simply because of the full moon? Everybody seemed to be slightly more "off" than normal.. I'm not talking about the band.. They were fabulous as usual but there was definately something strange in the air.. As for me.. I did not repeat my drunken performance of last year.. only had two shots of Jameson.. apparently everyone still thought I was drunk.. Please people.. there is a big difference between excited and drunk.. :) This is a Tim Malloys website, but I still feel the need to say that Boiled in Lead also put on a kick-ass performance!
February 15: So.. We went to Duluth for the show on Saturday.. Actually, Pat and I drove up Friday night to stay with some friends.. most of the day was uneventful.. When Saturday rolled around, we hung out until Johnny got up to Duluth, then went and hung out with him at the hotel. The show was pretty much the same as it usually is.. A lot of fun. With one exception.. oh it was still fun.. it just wasn't usual. At some point in the evening, a drunk patron decided he was going to dance.. not only could he not dance very well, it was clear that he should not* be dancing. After he almost knocked over one of the speakers, I started to walk towards the stage.. When he almost fell on Johnny's monitor, and I heard Johnny say "uh.. security?" I looked at Dave and asked him if he was going to do something about it. I got no response. So I walked over to the stage and shoved the guy back and said "you can't be this close" then I walked away. Apparently the band thought this was pretty funny and gave Dave and Pat a lot of crap because I was the one who took care of the drunk.. Not sure what happened with Dave, but I know Pat was in the other room smoking. Folk Underground came up and played the set break, and before the show we celebrated Fabulous Lorraine's birthday. All in all it was a great evening. :)
February 11: You guys are never gonna believe this.. two entries in one week.. ok.. enough of that.. anyway, I hope everyone notices that we've added a guestbook to the page. I'm going to go ahead and apologize in advance for the pop up ads that come up. It's the price of having a free guestbook. I may look into the adfree version, but since it's a monthly charge, we'll just start with this one. Last nights show was really strange.. the bar was pretty full, but the crowd was dead! It was like someone sprayed liquid valium into the air ducts or something.. The band was crazy as ever, and Folk Underground was a lot of fun. For those of you that weren't at the show, Folk Underground is Fabulous Lorraine's band.. They played at the cd release party, as well as a few other times at the rec with the malloys. Yesterday, they were gracious enough to play for us when the band went on their break. And.. for those of you that know her, Jen is back in town from Germany! and she's staying through St. Patricks day! What a surprise! Johnny forgot to pimp the Duluth show, so just in case you don't read the schedule, try to make it to Pizza Luce on Saturday, it's always a great time!
February 8: I realize that there was no Tim Malloys show on this day, but I have a story I wanted to share with everyone. Actually, the band did have a gig, it was a wedding reception. Pat and I showed up at the end of the reception to help Johnny pack up all the equipment. Afterwards, we decided to go over to Kieran's to catch the end of Peter Yeates and Steve Mulligan. We followed Johnny till we got to the parking garage, and we turned in to park. As we went around the lot, we saw a parking spot next to a shiny new Jeep. Pat carefully parked the car, and commented that the blonde chick in the jeep was watching as if she thought he was going to hit her car. As he got out, she immediately started yelling at him about how his door had hit her jeep and damaged it. She stated "I saw your door hit my car, it caused damage, give me your insurance card or I'm going to call the cops! I heard this as I was getting out and told her that he didn't hit her jeep. Pat also politely said "I didn't hit your car ma'am" We obviously refused to give her our insurance card, as you could see* there was no damage. So she said "fine, you could have made this easy, now I'm calling the cops! *calls police* yes, I am in a parking garage, someone just hit my car with their door and they are refusing to own up to it." So we wait for the police to arrive, the whole time thinking that this woman was being a completely unreasonable bitch, and that hopefully the police would sort it out. When they got there, the situation got increasingly funny. One cop just stood by the squad car while the other walked up to the jeep with his flashlight, and said "show me the damage". The woman pointed at a spot in the center of the fender above the rear wheel. She also pointed to my car stating that you could see paint from her car on the door. The officer picked at the paint, and said "actually.. that was part of their car.. sorry" Of course it was from the area on my car where the trim is missing.. no big deal. The police officer asked Pat to get into the car and slowly open his door. As the door swung clearly past the spot she had pointed out, The officer again said "Show me the damage" She pointed about 6-7 inches back on the fender and said "right there! there's the damage from his door hitting my car!" The officer instructed Pat to open his door further, as it passed the spot that she pointed out, he once again (in an increasingly condescending voice) said "show me the damage" she tried to point to another spot, and he informed her that there was no damage, that he wasn't going to do anything, and told Pat he was free to go. We thanked the officers and headed in for Kieran's where we immediately busted out laughing and shared the story with Johnny, Peter, Milo and Karrin. I have never in my life had to fight harder to keep from laughing than I did when that cop started talking to this woman..

January 23,24,25, and 28: Yes that's right.. four days in one. This weekends shows were a blast. I really don't remember much of Saturday's show.. (not my fault! I swear!) But the other two days were great. We were treated to the "Slim Malloys" for the third set one of the days, and again for the beginning of the show on another. Tuesday was very interesting, Peter Yeates got up to help out for a bit, then Frankie (sorry don't know her last name) Played the violin for a few songs. Peter got back up for the national anthem, and treated us to the "apparent" english version near the end.. something about "I lost the words, and Frankie's a sexy bird" or something close to that.. never knew that before! :)

January 21: Ok apparently this journal doesn't get updated enough for everyone's happiness to be fulfilled. So I am going to put this out for anyone who's interested. Send me an email at webmaster@spacestar.net with an entry about a show, and I'll put it up here with full credit to whoever sent it. If I already have an entry, I'll add it to the bottom. Also look for some new updates coming soon. Some videos taken with my new pda camera, and a guestbook.
January 9,10,11: This weekend can pretty much be summed up in one phrase- "o-o-o" Happy Birthday Peter :)
December 17: Oh boy, what to say about the show in Duluth this Saturday.. let's just say you take a bunch of Jameson, add in a little outstanding music, and just for fun combine that with fire-breathing and fire-juggling. I'd say you'd have a damn good time. Which is what happened. The audience was a little quiet.. but after the fire, and after the yuppies left.. they got more excited..All in all, it was an awesome Saturday.
November 3: Well.. I've been told that I need to update the journal. It's been rather busy at work, so I've neglected the journal a bit.. Anyone that didn't go to the Tim Malloys CD release party missed out on an awesome event. Start the day off with The Fabulous Lorraine and Folk Underground, their first gig!! They kicked ass! Next up Lojo Russo. Lojo is always amazing, and today was no different. After that, Peter Yeates. I have to say, Peter is a lot of fun, by the time Peter was up on stage, the night was in full swing. I was busy in the green room with a bottle of 1780 while Alicia Corbett and band was onstage, I apologize but I had a reputation to uphold. However, unlike the notorious St. Patrick's day drunken episode, I managed to stay vertical, and coherent the entire night. The Tim Malloys were outstanding as usual, and it was a lot of fun. We even made it to breakfast with Johnny after the show.. Everything about the First Ave. show was great. It was a lot of fun, and everyone seemed to have a good time. I know I did.
September 28: The band played the "alternative cast party" out at renfest saturday. It was incredible, not only did the band play a great set, we got treated to the musical stylings of Mark Sterling, Jeff Cahill, Lojo Russo, Steve Brust, and a few others (I'll add the names when I get them). It's always fun to sit around, drink whiskey and listen to fabulous musicians. By the way.. there was a certain someone there who drank just a little more than she should have (not me this time) but I hear she survived with only a minor memory lapse.
September 6: So.. What to put down about the Duluth show, we'll start the evening on Friday night with a great crowd, and oddly enough a lot of my family was there, and Pat's as well.. After the first song of the second set, I found out why. I had previously assumed it was for Pat's birthday, but apparently he had been scheming with the band, and after Van Dieman's Land, Johnny introduced him and he got up and proposed to me, well anyone who knows us knows well enough that I said yes, and now we are engaged. The crowd was crazy.. could have had something to do with the 200 free shots of Jameson that they passed around before the show.. All in all, it was a great night. Saturday was full of excitement, the crowd wasn't as big, but the show was great nonetheless. After the show Johnny, Pat and I had an adventure that's too involved to jot down here..
August 6th: For the benefit of Dave "sexy and available" Wheeler, I am updating the journal again. [sentence removed per request] Well for all of you out there, here goes nothing. This is actually about Bedlam, Johnny's other band. First off, anyone who didn't go to the Irish Embassy Pub in St. Paul to see Bedlam missed out on an amazing show. We all got to hear some great original music from Mark Sterling, and I never expected to hear blues music at an Irish Pub..
by the way, www.timmalloys.com is working again. yeay!

July 12th: Ok.. Just started working again.. it's strange getting up so early after two months.. and not being able to go out as much to see the shows.. However I got a report that the July 2nd show was hotter than hell, Paul Regge of Tramps and Hawkers sat in while Neil was on vacation as well as the fabulous Peter Yeates. I'm supposed to make some sort of reference to the "Hell's furnace tour". The show didn't go past the 2nd set however because the bar was empty..
July 6th: Webmasters Birthday! I'd also like to say Happy Birthday to Johnny. His birthday was on the 3rd of July.
June 14th: ok.. apologies all around for the combination of the website being down for a week and for the journal not being updated. There have been many changes going on in my life. If you really want to know, find me and ask. Suffice it to say, the website hosting has been moved, and should remain stable indefinately barring any catastrophic world events. So.. since the last entry, we've gone through the debacle of getting carded at McGoff's and realizing my ID was sitting on my desk in the cities (doh!) almost not getting into the show after driving over an hour. Thanks go to the waitress who vouched for me. Of course the next night I made sure I had it and it never came up. (beware.. apparently every now and then they have a guy ID'ing people at the door) Needless to say that it was not my day. The band has begun recording (Last Tuesday at the Rec) for their next album. (yeay!) They will be recording again this coming Tuesday, be sure to stop in and show your support. Since Neil has graduated, he has begun making appearences at McGoff's, take the time to drive down their and check it out, it's always a great time. Be sure to check the schedule for some new shows that have been added, including a show at the Irish Embassy, and dates for Irish Fest.
April 23rd: It's been too long since we've been to a show. Had a lot of fun catching up with people we haven't seen in a while. Adam's echoplex was back which meant Neil could once again sing the spring song.. after three attempts at starting the song, he decided he needed to sing lower and made it through the whole song.
April 19th and 20th: Anyone who has any idea what happened in duluth, and would like to be featured in the journal, please send an entry to webmaster@timmalloys.net and I will put it here.
April 2nd: Missed a couple shows but finally made it back to see the Tim Malloys. I heard that the McGoff's gig was relatively quiet and pretty much dead. Well the Half Time rec was not dead tonight. A big crowd of regulars enjoyed the show while I was filled in on the details of xxxxx's plans for world domination. I always crack up when the Tim's play funk soul brother, but they had to cut it short because apparently Patty hates that song. We stayed till the end of the show and had a blast. Big props to Johnny for performing while sick. (webmaster's note: no it is not my personal goal to find/use every happy adjective in the english language)
March 22nd and 23rd: We headed down to Mankato for the weekend to catch both shows. Friday night was fun, nothing to much out of the ordinary happened. Saturday morning I worked on the webpage for about 2 hours while sitting in McGoff's from 11:30 to about 1:30 till the guys finally showed up. A big thanks to the staff of McGoff's for not kicking us out :) Saturday night was a blast, the place was pretty full even for a McGoff's show. (mental note: never wait a week and a half to write a journal entry.. the details slip away.)
March 19th: Only one night of recovering and already another show. It was obvious that everyone was recovering, not just the band. The band put on a fun show despite having worked their butts off all weekend. Everyone seemed to be having a great time, and it was great to see all the people who survived the weekend and made it to the Half Time. Anyone who was at that show in the beginning also heard a little about the alleged drunken escapades of yours truly the webmaster. I would like to state for the record, I never got sick in the green room. That's all I'm going to say about that. It was a very laid back show, but as usual was still a lot of fun.
March 15th - 17th: Where to begin, we started St. Patrick's weekend at the Park Tavern. The venue stinks, most of the employees didn't know there was going to be a live band, let alone the customers. The food was decent, and the band was awesome as usual. A quick teardown of all the equipment and then run over to Kieran's for the night show. Kieran's was awesome as usual, the great crowd and enthusiasm really finished off the night well for all involved. We even had two people follow us from Park Tavern who were not to busy playing trivia and watching sports to notice that there was a kickass band there. The crowd at Kieran's always gets into the show and therefore made it an even better night. Get up the next day and go over to Mr. Patoms in St. Paul. The crowd there was more into the music and of course the spirit of the day, most everyone was very festive. The show was a lot of fun and it was great to see Neil's awesome mural. (webmaster note: anyone who has a chance to go to Mr. Patoms, or O'donovans check out Neil's murals, they are kick ass!!) Saturday night found us at Kieran's again and the place was packed. We happened to catch a little of the "Lojo Russo trio" and they were a lot of fun. With barely room to move, in the audience, the Tims started their show. We finally managed to find a place to sit down and enjoy the rest of the night. Had a great show that night, and went home to prepare for St. Patty's day. We arrived at First Ave in the early afternoon to load in the equipment. Then Neil, Dave, Pat and I went over to O'Donovan's for some food before the show. Great food at that place and some nice live music. Then we crossed back over to First Ave. for the show. The beggars were on first, and they were awesome. I was out into the crowd for the Malloys show and I have to say, it was the nicest pit environment I've ever been in at a show, no pushing and shoving, everyone was having a great time and most of the faces were familiar which I'm sure helped. BIL rocked the crowd with a great set, and then got the Malloys up for a great version of Bugger Off and then finished their set out. It was great to hear Rasputin live. After they finished, we headed home to attempt recovery from the busy weekend.
March 14th: We braved the snow and crappy roads to see the band play at Kieran's. The bar was mostly empty only a handful of tables had people at them. The band opened with Queen of Argyle, then slipped into loungesinger mode for a little bit at the request of the bar staff. Just as I was having flashbacks to Bill Murray in SNL they started to perform again. Neil brought a new drum to the show. No one liked the new drum.. Poor Neil. I guess we're just used to the old one. Left early because of the snow, so we only saw the first set.
February 28th - March 2nd: Three days of fun with the Tim Malloys, I could be wrong, but I swear the band forgot to take their ritalin on Saturday night. Neil and John got crazy on stage.. perhaps it was all that whiskey. It's become a game to request songs that we haven't heard in a while, mostly just to hear them again, but also to keep the band on their toes.
February 26th: Another Tuesday Finds us at the Half Time Rec, it'd been a few weeks since we'd been there, and even a few weeks since I had gone to any show.. A lot of old songs were dusted off for this show, including The Night Visit (fuck a little dog?)- sung by Neil, Irish Soldier Laddie - sung by Adam, and Men Behind the Wire - sung by John. Brian Smith stepped in and sang Raggle Taggle Gypsy and Boys of the Old Brigade (*note* The Tim Malloys do not play this song anymore other than this rare occasion). Peter Yeates got up for a couple of tunes you'll have to forgive me for not knowing the names, and ended the night by singing the Irish National Anthem for us. It was a night of great fun and a nice upswing for my week anyway.
February 23rd: John's other band Bedlam performed, and I unfortunately got roped into working.. My other half checked out the show, and said he had an awesome time. John, Mark, and Paul even played a song for me that was transmitted via cellphone all the way from Mankato to Eden Prairie followed by a dedication by John (what a sweetie). Please encourage John to have Bedlam perform again.
February 15th and 16th: Mankato show. Mankato shows are usually very mellow with John and Adam. For these two shows, John convinced Neil to drag himself down there and again, they rocked McGoff's. The audience really got into the music, and some of the locals even got a little crazy. I have to mention that some of the locals referred to the table of about 15 Twin Cities Tim fans as the "rough crowd" but once they realized that we were all there for the music, they got friendly. Any time your in the Mankato area and the Tims are there, stop down at McGoff's and see the show.
February 9th: well.. we dragged our butts up to Duluth for the Tim Malloys Pizza Luce show.. after about 2.5 hours of driving, we finally arrived in Duluth. Hung out most of the afternoon, and made our way to the show at around 8:30 or so for dinner. The Tims rocked the house Saturday night, the crowd was jumping and there were many people dancing. We got a bunch of pictures with Neil's camera that we'll hopefully be putting up soon. They ran a special on shots of Jameson which definately helped the mood of the crowd, and the band. I would definately recommend that everyone come and check them out next time they play Duluth. The people at Pizza Luce were awesome and very friendly, some of the staff even got out and danced, and encouraged audience members to dance.
